Every moment I will face His direction

and direct my heart towards Him,

grow accustomed to feeling pain from love for Him

and like the screech owl constantly call out to God.

           I will say Haqq, Haqq, cry Hu, Hu

           until I turn “I” and “we” into Him.

I am the goblet, He is my wine;

I am the reed-flute, He is the breath that plays me.

His essence is existence, while I am non-existent;

I am transient, while He is eternal.

           I will say Haqq, Haqq, cry Hu, Hu

           until I turn “I” and “we” into Him.

I am the worshiper, He is the object of worship;

I bow in adoration, He is the one adored.

I am the wayfarer and He is my goal;

I am the appearance, while He is True Being.

           I will say Haqq, Haqq, cry Hu, Hu

           until I turn “I” and “we” into Him.

I am a thorn, while He is a rose bough;

I am a particular, while He is Universal Being.

I am a cup, while He is the wine-serving cupbearer;

He is the lute that leads the tune of creation, while I am the drum.

           I will say Haqq, Haqq, cry Hu, Hu

           until I turn “I” and “we” into Him.

I am a clueless seeker, trying to point the way,

while He is the leader and majestic path.

I am a bird without wings or feathers,

while He is the sky above the land and sea.

           I will say Haqq, Haqq, cry Hu, Hu

           until I turn “I” and “we” into Him.

I am an atom, while He is the universe to me;

I am a drop, while He is the ocean to me.

I am the servant, while He is my master;

I am negated, while He is the one I affirm.

           I will say Haqq, Haqq, cry Hu, Hu

           until I turn “I” and “we” into Him.

I am the seeker, while He is the one sought;

I am the desirer, while He is the one desired.

I am the lover, while He is the beloved;

I am the drunkard, while He is the one causing commotion.

           I will say Haqq, Haqq, cry Hu, Hu

           until I turn “I” and “we” into Him.

I am the prey, while He is the hunter;

I am the captive, while He is free.

I am a ruin, while He is thriving;

I am Majnun, while He is Farhad.

           I will say Haqq, Haqq, cry Hu, Hu

           until I turn “I” and “we” into Him.

He is the vat-house, while I am the wine cup;

He is the enchanter, while I am the fable.

He is all awareness, while I am crazed;

He is the candle’s flame, while I am the moth.

           I will say Haqq, Haqq, cry Hu, Hu

           until I turn “I” and “we” into Him.

I have lost my heart, while He is my heart’s beloved;

I am a soldier, while He is my general.

I am grieving and He is my consolation;

I have no one else — He is my only friend.

           I will say Haqq, Haqq, cry Hu, Hu

           until I turn “I” and “we” into Him.

I am poor and my days are dark;

He is the radiant sun of guidance.

I am an atom that reflects light,

while He is the bestower of light to all creation.

           I will say Haqq, Haqq, cry Hu, Hu

           until I turn “I” and “we” into Him.
