The sama of the Sufis springs out of love for the Beloved,
for their hearts are restless with yearning for Him.
If you are one of God’s drunkards, get up and clap your hands,
stamp your feet and beat the drums.
Leave behind your prudent intellect and rise to your feet;
let go of yourself and embrace the drunkards.
Such is the state and condition of the sincere —
full of lovers’ fervor and song.
Enter now the banquet of sama with drum and reed flute;
cry out, shout and roar!
May you forget your self and submerge
into the sea of Unity dead drunk.
May you become empty of yourself and full of Him,
singing drunkenly His names; Haqq Haqq and Hu Hu.
