A turbulent ocean,

          restless, in commotion,

          so much to tell, a chest-full, weighing me down

                    yet you say “Be silent!”

I talk

          not to think,

          not to pay attention to myself

                    yet you say “Be silent!”

The atoms of my being

          are breaking apart

          I am exploding and becoming obliterated

                    yet you say “Be silent!”

I pour my heart out

          only to amuse you;

          your joy makes me happy

                    yet you say “Be silent!”

A starry-eyed child

          engages its mother with endless questions,

          the mother, oblivious to the child’s need and joy, responds

                    “Hush, be silent!”
